Most tuning parts are available only for the Zetec E engine. The following only refers to this engine.
The 1.8 105PS engines are easily uprated to 130PS by using standard Ford parts from the 1.8 130PS engine. You will need the throttle housing, cams (or use the Kent FZ1802 cams) and the matching ECU. A power boost valve will eliminate the flat spot that is found between 3300 and 3500 rpm. A good exhaust will also help the engine breath better, the standard system tends to be restrictive. To modify further, the restrictive inlet and injection system will also need to be replaced, which is expensive. Suitable aftermarket injection systems are available from Weber and Lumenition and allow for much greater scope of engine modifications.
The Zetec engine is a popular transplant engine for older RWD cars and kit cars. When used in such applications, the restrictive inlet and injection system can be removed and replaced with a pair of popular and tunable Weber DCOEs. We can either supply a complete Weber kit (including carbs, manifold and 3D ignition system) or the parts separately as required. Using the Weber Alpha carb kit alone, the standard 1.8 engine with 130PS cams will give 155bhp. The 2.0 will produce 165bhp. To fit the engine to a RWD 4 speed or 5 speed gearbox, we manufacture a special steel flywheel that allows the use of the 8½" Pinto clutch assembly. We also stock the water rail that is necessary to transfer the water outlet from the back of the head to a more accessible location and exhaust manifolds to fit Mk1/2 Escorts.
Engine components are available for further modification from fast road, to rally and race specification. Such components include performance cylinder heads, steel con rods, forged pistons, solid lifters and high lift camshafts (some of which require the head to be modified with oversize lifters).
