Todørs 240 (242) ble også laget i 1984.

 

Hvis en slik "1+2"-dørs versjon skulle være hensiktsmessig som handikapbil, skal man vel ikke utelukke at det kan være dette som er saken her.

 

Angående Volvo i kommuniststatene: 264TE ble brukt av toppsjiktet i DDR, da deres egenproduserte biler (Wartburg) ikke helt holdt standarden, mens de på den annen side for syns skyld heller ikke kunne tillate seg å kjøpe vesttyske biler, slik som MB. Ellers har det også vist seg at det ble solgt en litt spesiell versjon i få eksemplarer, 244DLS, i Øst-Tyskland. Det finnes sikkert flere eksempler, men i det store og det hele tror jeg vi kan fastslå at Volvo var en luksus for et eksklusivt fåtall i Øst-Europa frem til 1989-90. Selv om man aldri skal si aldri, ville jeg tro at en 80-talls Volvo i Estland mest sannsynlig er hentet inn brukt fra et vestlig land, gjerne Sverige.

i must say that this three door car is mine, as i have been told it was police car.dark blue in original colour (as you see in my oldcars rally pictures) and birght blue is after i respreying it.i got this car a year ago and i am third owner in estonia since 1996.as i know these car made only for police ca 27 units, anybody knows more tell me know, i havent seen more.as i dont speak your language but seems to me that you are talking someting about 264t also, there in one limo in estonia too driven by king himself IMGP4850

Yes, we have wondered quite a bit about the origins of your "1+2 door" 240. It's a mystery to us.

 

The whole thing started with a wikipedia entry stating, among other things, that this was one of about 30 (could just as well be 27, as you say) "1+2 door" cars resulting from a "mishap" during production, which most of us here found highly unlikely. We even tended to dismiss the picture as a photoshop fake, but finally we believe, I guess...

 

It would be helpful to us if you could tell any of the following:

 

What model year? The chassis number (or the significant parts of it)? Was it built as a 1+2 door from the start, or was it done later? Was it made for the police in Estonia or some other country (Sweden?)? Are you saying that the car came to Estonia in 1996, or has it been there since new?

 

We've been speculating on these questions and more. I don't know if you have any more info - did you get any sort of documents with it? Anything to shed some light on this...

 

The 264TE "Limo" by Bertone has been mentioned in this thread, as you noticed. That was when we strayed on to Volvos in the former communist countries of Europe - such as the top brass of East Germany who would rather have long Volvos since they couldn't really be seen with West German luxury cars.

my car is from 1987 and as i know its made in sweden in special workshop, full vin i can post tomorrow but by that its 244, as i know its made with 3doors at start by hand like limos, its from sweden and came to estonia 1996, it has no spetcial features (recaro i put there myself), engine in b200k, no power anything. This wikipedia article is yoke with picture of my car (who put it there, i dont know.Since 1990 there was very small numbers on wester cars in estonia (thanks to soviet occupation, was even forbbitten to buy cars exept soviet whitch you also cant buy these times because of waiting lists ca 15 years to buy a lada). About this limo here, this is not bertone but original volvo limo, one picture (yet with swedish numbers, and flags) pilt 034

It would have been nice to find some official documents or information about what this car is ment to do with 1+2 doors.

For disabled drivers? Why not a 242?

As a police car, why not a 244?

For fun? Maybe :P

 

But from all the pictures, it has to be real.

 

The vin# is from a 244 if I am not mistaken.

Interesting. Do you know if the 3-door version was made for any particular purpose? Earlier in the thread it was speculated that this car was made for wheelchair users, hence the wider 242-style door, but since your car lacks both hand-throttle and hand-brakes, it probably rules out that possibility...

 

Only alternatives left is that it was made for really fat drivers, or as an elaborate hoax to poke fun at 242 enthusiasts, and their obsession with the numbers of doors on a car. :D
